To Peel Or Not To Peel: That Is The Question...

After reading a quick post over on Heartbreaking Cards of Staggering Genius about peeling off the clear protective coating on 90's Topps and Leaf products, I thought it'd be a great question to pose to collectors out in the blogosphere. Do you peel these protective layers off your cards or leave them on and why?

I certainly understand both sides of the debate, but I rather leave the protective layer on the cards. There's just something about that coating on the card that makes the card whole in my eyes. I wont even purchase a card that is missing that clear plastic coating. Here's a few cards in my collection that have the protective coating still attached.

To Peel Or Not To Peel: That Is The Question… what do you prefer?

  1. I'd peel them for sure. To me, the writing on the film ruins the card. To each their own, obviously. But in this day and age with what we have in place to protect a card, I'd say that the writing on the film could go.

    But that's just me.

  2. Yeah, it's def a "to each their own" type preference.

  3. If you peel the coating you'll ruin the value... duh.
