DIII Dunker With 50 Inch Vert Gets Voted Into The NCAA Slam Dunk Contest

What do you think? Does 5'11'' DIII baller Jacob Tucker have the goods to win the NCAA Slam Dunk Contest tonight on ESPN 2 (9:00 PM ET)? I say, "YES". I think Tucker's repertoire of dunks could beat out say a guy jumping over a strategically placed automobile in maybe an even more prestigious dunk contest. That's just my humble opinion, but what say you?

The Jordan Collection Part 5 (Slam Dunk Edition): 1985 Star Co. Slam Dunk Supers Group Photo/Checklist

1985 Star Co. Slam Dunk Supers Group Photo/Checklist
Tonight is one of my favorite nights in sports. The NBA's Dunk, 3-Pont and Skills contests are tonight on TNT. I'm really excited as it should be a fun night featuring some the NBA's best. Since this is All-Star Weekend, I thought I would highlight one of my favorite All-Star themed cards from way back.

This 1985 Star Co. Slam Dunk Supers Group Photo/Checklist card is a Star Co. card from Michael Jordan's rookie year. It also includes some of the best high flyers of the 80's including Clyde Drexler, Julius Erving and Dominique Wilkins. Oh, and the card is also a giant 5 x 7 inch goliath. Total Awesomeness! Sure, the '85 Star Co. Jordan XRC would be nice, but who has $2,500 lying around to spend on a trading card? I certainly don't, so this Group Photo card from Jordan's rookie year is the next best thing.

The Star Co. cards are some of my personal favorites, just not my wallet's favorites. They feature bold colors and some pretty decent photography. The Slam Dunk Supers set has a total of nine single player cards of the participants from the '85 NBA Slam Dunk Contest plus this group photo for a total of ten cards. The set has a book value of $200. Much of that value is tied up in the Jordan single, but the group photo card has a respectable $40 book value. I've seen these group photo cards all over the price spectrum on the secondary markets like eBay, but here's a crazy Buy Now eBay auction of a complete set in it's original packaging (click here).

Hope you enjoyed this All-Star Weekend themed Jordan Collection post. Have fun watching all the festivities and of course… "Enjoy Every Bounce of the Ball".

Which NBA Slam Dunk Contest Performance Ranks #1 (Jordan '88, Webb '86, Carter '00, Richardson '03, Wilkins '88)?

'85 Star Co. Group Photo/Checklist
There have been a number of amazing physical and creative performances in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest over the years, but which is the best overall performance? I picked five videos of the best performances that include each dunk form the selected contests. Sure, there have been some memorable single rounds or dunks by contestants, J.R. Rider's East Bay Funk Dunk, but what if we could compare the best overall performances from the most memorable contestants? Well now you can.

I know, I know. Everyone has there favorite Dunk Contest performances, but I really think these are the best five of all-time: Jordan '88, Webb '86, Carter '00, Wilkins '88 and Richardson '03. So checkout the videos and get to ranking the best overall NBA Slam Dunk Contest performances. Make sure to take into consideration each dunk from all rounds. I hope everyone enjoys these dunktacular videos and of course "…Enjoy Every Bounce of the Ball".

Poster Review: Isaiah Rider "Slam Dunk King" StarLine Poster

You may remember "JR" Rider more for his long criminal rap sheet or just missing being the captain of the infamous Portland Jail Blazers (Rider was traded to Atlanta for the veteran Steve Smith just prior to the Jail Blazer Days), but I like to remember the former 5th overall draft choice in the '93 NBA Draft as the winner of the '94 NBA Slam Dunk Contest. Rider was not one of the best dunkers of all-time, but he may have executed one of the best dunks of all-time. That particular dunk also has one of the coolest rim-rockin' names ever conceived. Say it with me Slam Dunk Aficionados, "The East Bay Funk Dunk". Dunk names don't get too much better than that!

Rider had an NBA career that was marred by criminal, personal and professional distractions, but he actually was a very talented scorer and athlete at one time. He averaged 20.4 points/game during his second season in the Association, and also won an ESPN ESPY Award for the Top NBA Play of the Year in '95 (YouTube video to your right). Rider also won an NBA Championship with the L.A. Lakers in 2001 (He received a Championship ring despite being left off the playoff roster). In all, Rider played in the NBA from '93 to '01 and also had a brief one game stint with the North Texas Fresh of the American Basketball Association.

The Slam Dunk King Starline poster is really a cool piece to add to any collector's collection or game room (click here for an eBay Buy Now auction). The action shot of Rider is from the '94 NBA Slam Dunk Contest that he won with "The East Bay Funk Dunk". Checkout Gary Payton with his bling shining, jaw dropped watching Rider winning the '94 Dunk Contest. I've seen many a dunk, jam and flush in my day, but this one is certainly right up there with some of the best.
