'93 Upper Deck SP Rickey Henderson |
For now, feast your eyes on this '93 Upper Deck SP Rickey Henderson card. It has little value. Actually, I'm sure it would be considered "junk wax". However, I've never liked that term. Sure, the monetary value isn't there, but this is a card featuring one of the cooler moments in MLB history: Rickey being Rickey while celebrating the all-time MLB steals record in 1991. This card is all about that great moment in baseball history.
I got the card while opening a few packs of '93 Upper Deck SP looking for the highly desired Derek Jeter Foil SP RC. I unfortunately didn't pull the Jeter, but this Henderson card was a pleasant surprise and really fun. And after all, isn't that what card collecting is all about… fun?
Happy collecting and "Enjoy Every Bounce of the Ball".
Awesome card... love any card of Rickey in an A's uniform... but this is extra special.
ReplyDelete@Mark, I'll set it aside for you.
ReplyDeleteI actually think this is from his 1,000th steal, not from breaking Brock's record. First, since this set is 1993, it's likely the picture was from 1992. Rickey broke the record May 1991, and stole 1,000 was May 1992. I do think Upper Deck was pretty good about not putting pics from 2 years ago.
ReplyDeleteSecond, and more importantly, Rickey had black gloves on when he stole #939. See pictures at this link:

Still an awesome card though!
@lifetimetopps, The back of the card reads, "Henderson stole base No. 1,066 on June 16, 1993, to pass Yutaka Fukumoto for pro baseball's all-time steals record". So I'm guessing the image on the front of the card was from that moment or his 1,000th SB.
ReplyDeleteEither way, thank's for the heads up.
