Warren Spahn vol. 2: 2009 Upper Deck SP Legendary Cuts Auto

I started a post series following my Warren Spahn collection about four months ago. Unfortunately, this is only the second post in that four month time period. I failed to realize how expensive it can be collecting HOF greats like Spahn. It's especially expensive when the vintage cards I'm looking for I want to be graded. It's not that I care so much to get a PSA 10, it's more that I don't want a card that is counterfeit or that has been altered. I'm fine with a 1948 Bowman Spahn that has a PSA grade of 4, 3, 2 or even 1. I just want to make sure they are the real deal.

So enough of my Spahn collecting woes. As Ice Cube said back in the day, "Today was a good day". Yeah, how many trading card blogs are going from Warren Spahn to Ice Cube? Hoopography roles like that. And why not? It was a good day. I received this 2009 Upper Deck SP Legendary Cuts Auto from my exploits on the Bay last week. It's a nice looking card. I wish there was a pic of Spahn on there, but this is a nice continuation to my Spahn collection.

I'm sure some readers are asking why I'm blogging and even collecting Warren Spahn cards? That's really a pretty good question and I'll explain. My trading card collection is broken down into 50% basketball, 20% baseball, 20% football and 10% hockey. I wasn't a math major, so I had to take a sec to make sure that worked out. So I actually collect a lot of different sports, sets and players. Warren Spahn figures into my collection because he was from my home town of Buffalo, NY. Plus he's often considered to be the best lefty ever. I'm sure there's a few Sandy Koufax fans out there that disagree with that statement. Other than Billy Martin, I'm not really collecting too many vintage baseball cards. So this Spahn collection is really fun.

Thanks for reading and… "Enjoy Every Bounce of the Ball".

  1. Another cool autograph Charles... I've been wanting to add a Spahn for awhile now. I'll pull the trigger sooner or later.

  2. @ Fuji, What are you looking for? A vintage. He played forever, so I have to ask. Iy you're looking to add a vintage Spahn card, do you want an early one or late one? I'm partial to the early Bowmans. Do you want an auto'd card, on-card or cut? There are tons of certified auto'd cards of Spahn. Or are you looking for a relic/jersey card?

Spahn is really interesting to collect because there are some many different cards from different eras for him. Can't wait to see what you get!!!

  3. I'm looking for an autographed card... on-card if possible. I've had my eyes on his Fleer GOTG, Topps Retired, Topps Gallery, or Topps Team Legends autographs... all early 2000's

I've seen some BIN in the $40 range, but I'd like to grab one in the $20 range if possible. I'm patient... so it might be a while.

  4. Yeah, being patient can be a collectors best attribute, at least for a collector's wallet. I'm familiar with a few of those and they are nice. The going rate for a Spahn on-card auto is about $28-$32.

  5. I just made an offer on a 2001 Topps Legends (52 Topps version) and he accepted. Paid $34 (free shipping)... a little more than I wanted... but it's a pretty cool on-card autograph.

  7. Fantastic card. And being from the "West Coast" myself an Ice Cube reference is always appreciated.
