My Very First Jersey Card

(2006 Thurman Thomas Limited Leaf Player Threads)
This 2006 Thurman Thomas Limited Leaf Player Threads card may not be much to look at, but it's the first jersey card I ever added to my collection. Like many collectors, I left the hobby when I was a little younger only to come back to it nearly a decade later. When I got back into trading cards and sports memorabilia the hobby had changed from innovative 90's designs to bringing collectors closer to the game with autographs and jersey pieces. I couldn't believe what I saw the first time I got on eBay to see if people still collected trading cards. Not only was the hobby still kicking, but one of the first eBay searches I conducted lead me to this very card. Like I said, this Thomas Player Threads card may not be the best looking card ever, but it's the hook that got me back in the boat.

  1. I'm depressed... I tried thinking about what my first memorabilia card was... and I can't remember. So... thumbs up for remembering. As for the card... I'm not sure what you're talking about... I totally think it's cool. I'm a huge fan of college memorabilia cards... I'll be posting about it pretty soon. Have a great week!

  2. - Mark: I just don't like the square chunks taken out of the card and then pieces of jersey placed through the picture border graphic. It looks like those relic pieces shouldn't even be there. I def agree with you about the college pic. Def Cool.

  3. My first memorabilia card was actually a Robin Yount bat piece from Diamond Kings. It was numbered to 35, I thought it was the coolest damn thing. And I had it in a screw down case that was probably worth more than the card now that I think about it.

Thurman Thomas is decent though. Not a bad start.

  4. - G: That's a great story!!! Can't go wrong with a player like Yount either.

  5. Lol... now that you mention it... it does look a little funny. I'm thinking that they should have just cut out the boxes "where the word jersey is" and stuck the jerseys in there. A little odd shaped, but it would have fit the design better.
